         "Call to me and I will answer thee."


       This passage was uttered by Jesus. Therefore it is found in the Bible. A promise that He veritably gives to all sinners especially to him who suffers from profound pain. Even though that we cannot see Him, He wants us to know that He is there all the time willing to help us.We just have to call Him.

       He said this maybe because  we tend to forget Him often. We just cry and cry in times of grief, but we fail to recognize His presence and we do not believe that His awesome power is able to settle all our anxieties (even our biggest problem in life). But I thank Him for these selfless words that He would answer our call through prayers. Yet, it doesn't mean that if we ask something from Him, He would immediately give it. Remember that there are 3 answers to our prayers: yes, no, and wait. It is just He would certainly answer us when we call and comfort us whenever we most need it.

            2.  Compare and contrast Miniver with Richard Cory.

Richard Cory is a man admired by most people in town. He is wholly a gentleman, clean favored, and imperially slim. He dresses finely and has proper decorum especially when he talks. Yes, he is richer than a king, schooled at every grace, and whoever looks at him would really wish to be in his place. Richard Cory seems to have all in life. The thing everyone yearns for. How desirable!

On the other hand, Miniver Cheevy is a man of nothing. I would mean not that ironic for it will only judge me as stupid. I say he wants to be treated like Richard Cory but shows no effort for it, instead keeps on thinking and drinking.

Oh! He’s like an attention-seeker since it seems that he wants to be praised even though he doesn’t deserve it.

Both subjects from different poems are totally opposite. Despite differences, there is that one thing links the two. Richard and Miniver want to die. Richard, though admirable, is secretly experiencing inner turmoil. No one exactly knows what it is all about, except the author of course. Meanwhile, Miniver cannot take his helpless situation any longer. He feels worthless and unwanted. Poor man!

3. Construct 4 questions that would process students understanding about the theme of the poem.

1.  Who is Miniver Cheevy as described in the poem?
2.  Why does he grieve?
3.   If you were Miniver, would you accept your life as run by fate? Why?
4.  How can you relate yourself with Miniver?

Richard Cory

            “In life, you really can’t have it all.” 

This is a famous tag line I often hear from people who go through any losses. Sad to say, Richard Cory suffers a big loss.

At first, I really admired Richard Cory. Look at how it was said: “He was a gentleman from sole to crown, Clean favored and imperially slim…” It seems like He is my dream man. Anyways, the poem shows that Richard Cory has a split personality. Psychologically, if a person has a lot of problems to the point that it has filled his unconscious part, there would come out a strange behavior (as a result). One would even think to kill or murder, or do things far more than we could ever imagine.

This I know a lot of people get upset and tired with life’s problems, difficulties and trials. Others would totally say they are congested. That is why most of us respond negatively or too differently. But how come there are people who succeed from these? It’s because these people react optimistically against the barriers of life. They never make it a hindrance to continually live a good life. And I would do the same with these comprehensible individuals.

I have also been in the situation of Richard Cory, as to I hide my moan, sorrows, and loneliness to a populace I encounter outside the house. It’s not being feigned but just are there things that need to be laid in private. However, I do pray. I express my grievances to Him who is able to lift me up. I do not do things on my own will, but seek His counsel.

 “There is a way that seems right to a man but in the end, it leads to death.”

Let us handle ourselves in deft.

Beauty and the Beast: A Reflection

“Don’t judge a book by its cover.”

This has been the widely known theme of the tale “Beauty and the Beast”. It entails us to never judge a person by his appearance because things aren’t always the way they seem. In other words, one must rather try to look past with the eyes can see, and look that person inwardly where his true personality is found for beauty lies within.

However, there are a lot of values we can draw from the story characters. Gaston for example serves as the main antagonist. He is rude, conceited, small-minded, and spends his time fighting and drinking. Do you think he is to be followed? I don’t think either.

On the other hand, Prince Adam as beast is strong but kind-hearted, intimidating but caring, and spends his time thinking ‘bout his beastly self...I mean everything about his curse. Sad to say, his attitudes change as provoked by an ugly spell. He wanted to be alone just like me when people would make negative impressions of me that are absolutely wrong. However, it doesn’t remain for too long and it doesn’t define his natural character.

Belle is my favourite character. Why? It’s because the will of sacrifice reigns in her heart. It was proved when she rescued her father by staying with unwanted beast. I know it’s hard for her to be away from her beloved parent, but she did it anyway. I even admire the way Belle treats the beast. We can seldom find a person nowadays with that endangered attitude like hers.

Indeed, the film was admired by millions of people around the globe, most popularly to children because of its picturesque scenes and well-known of its virtuous values. This tale was created a long while but it’s good to reminisce the thing, not that you wanted to be a child again but to be refreshed of the values that have been taught when we’re still a child.

Descriptive Pattern Organizer-It Couldn't Be Done

LIT 004-PRELIM EXAMINATION

1.) Discuss how Modeling and Scaffolding affect in the child's learning progress.

Modeling is presenting a desired behavior or process so that it can be imitated by the learners, while scaffolding is giving support in order to help the performance of a task, whereby this support is faded. These tow processes coincide and both bring a great impact on the child’s learning progress.

Modeling has 2 effects on the learners, either positive or negative. If the teacher ( or we call model ) models the appropriate behavior, then the child will likely to follow and adapt the behavior  but if not. It will result to a negative attitude of the child.

Scaffolding, on the other hand, has the same effects with that of modeling to the learner. When the child is given right amount of assistance, he will learn to accomplish a task. It can make a learner confident, when done appropriately, and eventually the child can accomplish the task independently without any need for assistance. However, if the teacher doesn’t know how to scaffold, it may result to a poor performance of the child.

Therefore, it is important that teachers ( or any adult ) must be careful to model appropriate behaviors since students often learn a great deal simply by observing them. Scaffold in such a way the learner achieves his potential level of learning.

2.) Construct a concept map showing the advantages and disadvantages of the Transmission Approach in teaching literature. Limit each to 4 entries.

 

3.) Create your own motivational strategy showing the use of Student-centered theory to introduce a topic in literature. Discuss how you will implement the strategy. Make your own title and identify the materials to be used.

TOPIC:    Elements of a Short Story

STRATEGY:     Library Inquiry

MATERIALS NEEDED:      school library, notebook, and pen

IMPLEMENTATION:

                I will gain first the attention of the students as well as introducing the topic to them. As soon as everybody is ready to learn, my strategy would start. This is not the typical library search where students would hurt take down notes from different books, bring and take a look at it in the class while the teacher is discussing the lesson. No, let’s have a twist this time!

The class will be grouped according to how many elements of a short story are there. To be exact, we commonly have 8 elements. All groups must go to search their elements in the library. They have to find out its definition, types (if there is any), and where to locate it in the story. Of course, they have to provide their own sample short story because they’re going to teach it to the class! But before that, they will be given 5 minutes to wrap things up. That would be the anticipated changed. Hence, my role as a teacher turns onto a facilitator of the learning process.

                In this strategy, the students are recognized as responsible for their learning. However, it strengthens student motivation; enhances creativity; promotes peer communication, teamwork, discovery and active learning; increase their participation and their performance skills. Putting students first gives credit to their needs, interests, abilities and learning styles but it will never replace the role of a teacher. S/he still acts as the evaluator of the students’ learning.

                              MY VIEW OF VYGOTSKY's PRINCIPLES

1. Vygotsky emphasized that effective learning happens through participation in social activities, making the scial context of learning crucial. Children learn better when assisted by a knowledgeable adult. This only points that parents, teachers, and other adults in the learners' environment all contribute to the process because they assist, model, motivate, and provide feedback to the learner.

     On the other hand, he opposed Jean Piaget's motion of independent discovery and inborn capability of achild to learn because it is social interaction that makes learning meaningful. But I would rather say it's not enough if we only have the social contribution for learning but it's essential that learner should develop higher order of thinking-one does this himself. For me, the learner himself do the generative learning and the construction of new knowledge. Yet, I do not disregard the society as a factor in so doing this. In spite of that, I support the theory of Vygotsky.

     I would conclude that learning and its development is a collaborative activity participated by the learners' environment and not only his own ability.

2. The Zone of Proximal Development illustrates the difference between what the child can accomplish alone and what he can accomplish with the guidance of another. This serves as an essential information for (soon to be) teachers so that we may know how to scaffold a learner in such a way that the gap between the leraners' current skill levels and the desired skill level is bridged. So then as part of the lesson planning, teachers will be able to identify appropriate pedagogy practices for classroom instruction to make a learner confident of accomplishing a certain task independently.

       Therefore, this Zone of Proximal Development serves as guide for us to give a right amount of assistance that would allow the learner to accomplish a task.
